Established in 1994, the Mudgegonga & District Landcare Group serves the communities of Mudgegonga and Rosewhite, encompassing the Barwidgee and Happy Valley Creeks and their tributaries. Situated midway between Myrtleford and Yackandandah, the area has a rich farming history with cattle and sheep enterprises, now complemented by a growing number of lifestyle properties. The group played a vital role in bushfire recovery following the 2009 fires and continues to lead a range of initiatives including erosion control, native revegetation, dung beetle introduction, and agricultural outreach. Currently, it is delivering a major federal grant under the Healthy Rivers Program, supporting projects across the mid-Ovens River region. Monthly meetings are held on the first Thursday at Mudgegonga Hall, and all locals—new and longstanding—are warmly invited to join.
