Stanley Landcare Group operates across the Stanley Plateau and surrounding areas near Beechworth in North East Victoria. This region is known for its rich biodiversity, productive farmland, and strong community spirit. From remnant bushland to seasonal wetlands, the landscape offers both beauty and ecological significance—making it a perfect setting for grassroots environmental action.
We’re proud to be part of a local movement that values care for the land, connection to place, and collective action.
Established in 2000, Stanley Landcare Group is a dedicated collective of landholders and community members working to protect and enhance the natural environment surrounding Stanley. We proudly promote the Landcare ethic—fostering stewardship, sustainability, and collaboration across our unique landscape.
Our key priorities include:
• Addressing serious environmental degradation, with a strong focus on invasive weed management
• Undertaking on-ground projects such as revegetation, habitat restoration, and erosion control
• Encouraging community support and participation in Landcare through education, events, and shared success
From restoring native vegetation to trialling innovative weed control methods, our group thrives on grassroots energy and local expertise.
Stanley Landcare Group works closely with the Stanley Spring Ditch and Wetlands Committee of Management (COM) to protect and restore the region’s unique wetland ecosystems. This partnership strengthens our shared commitment to biodiversity, waterway health, and community engagement.
Together, we support projects that celebrate Stanley’s natural heritage and ensure its long-term sustainability.
