Stanley Spring Ditch & Wetlands Committee of Management

The Stanley Spring Ditch & Wetlands Committee of Management (SSDWC) is a community‑led group appointed under the Crown Land (Reserves) Act to oversee the care, management and protection of the Spring Ditch and Wetlands Reserve in Stanley, Victoria. The Committee manages the natural waterway and reserve area located between Mt Stanley Road and Little Scotland Road, ensuring this important landscape is protected for environmental, cultural and community benefit.

Who They Are

SSDWC is made up of local volunteers with deep knowledge of Stanley’s waterways, wetlands and forested landscapes. Members share a commitment to safeguarding the ecological health of the Spring Ditch system and often collaborate with the Stanley Landcare Group and the wider Landcare network to support biodiversity and community involvement.

What They Do

The Committee’s responsibilities include:

• Caring for and maintaining the Spring Ditch waterway and surrounding wetland reserve

• Coordinating weed management, revegetation and habitat restoration

• Supporting biodiversity through projects such as artificial hollows and habitat enhancement

• Managing the reserve in line with DEECA requirements and Crown Land obligations

• Encouraging community participation, education and stewardship of the natural environment

SSDWC is an Associate Member of the Mid Ovens Landcare Consortium Inc., giving the Committee access to Landcare communications, networking opportunities and facilitator support through existing arrangements with Stanley Landcare. The Committee retains its own governance responsibilities and insurance as a registered Crown Land Committee of Management.
